In order to apply for a Golden Visa for Malta, the investor must make a monetary contribution to the Government of $30,000 euros. At the time of submitting the application, a non-refundable administrative deposit of $5,500 euros must be paid, while the remaining amount will be paid only if approved.

Applicants must also provide an affidavit stating that they have an annual income of more than €100,000 from outside Malta, or that they have capital of not less than €500,000.

All applicants to the residency program in Malta must also pass a strict due diligence process, and must not have a criminal record or be involved in any criminal activity.

- Future Citizenship or Nationality by Investment: After being a resident for at least 1 year, it will then be possible to access a passport by investment by complying with:

* An investment of at least €600,000 if you have completed 36 months of residence in Malta or €750,000 after residing in the country for 12 months.

Introduced in 2013 under the Immigration Act, the Malta Retirement Program allows EU/EEA/Swiss citizens and their dependents (spouse, children under the age of 26 and parents) who intend to retire in Malta obtain a residence permit. The permit is valid for 5 years, renewable as long as the requirements are met. You will be required to purchase a residential property worth at least €275,000 if you are in Malta, or €220,000 if you are in Gozo or South Malta. The property cannot be leased to a third party, if you have a residence permit under this regime. Alternatively, instead of buying a property, you can rent a property in Malta, with a minimum annual rent of €9,600 if you are in Malta, or €8,750 if you are in Gozo or South Malta. You must reside at least 90 days a year in Malta on average over a period of five years.
